🚨Abortion rights are on the ballot this week 🚨
One August 2nd, Kansans will have the chance to keep the rights their state's Supreme Court said already exist in their Constitution.
You probably have questions. Like… Abortion is still legal in Kansas?!
Yes, but with limitations, thanks to a 2019 decision of the state Supreme Court.
But yes, thankfully. Yes.
And Kansas is especially important to anyone in the mid-Midwest or the South who can get pregnant, because it’s surrounded on two sides by states where the procedure is now banned.
Of course, Republicans want to change that and pass a fascist full ban with no exceptions. The Kansas No State Constitutional Right to Abortion and Legislative Power to Regulate Abortion Amendment, which organizers nauseatingly call the "Value Them Both Amendment,” on the ballot on August 2nd.
Why August 2nd?
They must think would not pass if Kansans get their say, which is why they scheduled the vote on the proposed amendment during the middle of the summer, in a primary election, when turnout is usually abysmal.
That’s where you come in.
There are two things you can do now:
Let everyone you can know Kansans can request an advance ballot until July 27 for the August 2nd election.
Support the effort to preserve basic reproductive rights in Kansas by either giving or encouraging others to give to one of the groups fighting against the ban like Kansans for Constitutional Freedom:
We obviously can’t expect voting to save reproductive rights — except when it clearly will, at least for now. That’s the case in Kansas.
And the only hope of limiting Republicans’ ambition for restriction at this point is to defeat them every single time we have a chance. So here’s our first chance.
